The Moon represents the memory, body fluids, the brain, the past, reproductive cycles, the public, family, home and the male’s idea of a wife, to name a few. By sign the Moon tells you how you react emotionally and how was your mother. It also says a large part of your personality and how it expresses itself. It also says how you nurture. By house, it is where you have a need; where you behave instinctively, where you feel your mother's influence. Or, it can also say where your mother had issues and where you may have a female influence. The Moon is one of the most significant indicators of personality and emotional response. It represents the female energy that we all carry. The Sun is forward movement, but the Moon can pull us backwards. The Moon represents instinctive emotional responses that often seem beyond our ability to effectively control. For people that work in hospitals and law enforcement, reports of increased activity during a Full Moon phase is common. When our emotional life is out of control, we can become less effective in other areas of life. The Moon transmits a powerful temptation to stay in our comfort zone. It can say a lot about our mothers. It can tell us the issues our mother had and how she handled these issues which have had a strong influence on our deep emotion-based responses. The Moon represents childhood experiences and our upbringing. In our upbringing, we needed things like food, warmth and safety. Therefore, the Moon in the chart represents strong needs. If these needs are allowed to continuously hold center stage in our lives, then we can become out of balance with the direction the Sun might be urging us towards. The Moon can help us feel nurtured and sensitive, or immature and reluctant to leave the past behind. The Moon represents our inner waters, our emotional nature and personality. It rules in the 4th house with the sign of Cancer, manifesting in the home, family and the relationship with our inner self. The Moon rules the day Monday or Moonday. In Spanish it is lunes, and it comes from the root word Luna. Its energetics are cold and moist. The Full Moon type in a person's constitution is more round, full and watery, pale skin and a mothering nature. The New Moon constitution can be more frail, not as round, distant, imaginative, poetic, and very sensitive to their environment. Moon type individuals are gentle and sensitive. They tend to be highly emotional and not as rational a Solar types. The Moon rules a female’s reproductive system along with Venus, the breasts, wombs, ovaries, menstrual cycle, stomach, and bladder to name a few. Often, states of dryness in the body are an indication of a deficiency in the Moon. The Moon is the brain and can indicate how we receive information and how we respond and react to it. Lunar pathologies can be those affecting the nerves and consciousness such as epilepsy, hysteria, psychosis and schizophrenia. As well as insomnia. An excess of the Moon can lead to damp tissue states leading to an accumulation of metabolic waste products, sluggish digestion, and circulation. One could see more vata-like nervousness, anxiety and tension. A Moon excess can lead to hormonal imbalances with an outcome towards anxiety and hysteria, and excessive or deficient bleeding during menstruation. Deficiency in Moon energy can mean an inability to digest or receive nutrients from food, depression, fatigue, restlessness, and insomnia. A well-expressed Moon energy is the kind that makes you feel really good, accepted, valued and cherished. In a less evolved, or weak Moon, you will see people having more sensitive minds, hearts, unclear boundaries, and overall nervousness. This would mean the light of the Sun is not strong and that is why they lack confidence and self-esteem. People with a strong Lunar force can also get easily overwhelmed and anxious. Through the Moon we heal our relationship with our mother. Also, through the Moon we learn to mother ourselves, or take care of our inner child. Moon remedies help us nourish and rebuild ourselves, leaving us with the feeling of being back home. Some examples of Moon herbs are Milky Oats, Vervain, Marshmallow, Skull Cap and Mugwort, to name a few.
